The internet has always had its share of spammers. This is nothing new. Stephen Slate is no different. He hacks into computers and seeks out people's email addresses for spamming purposes, returning the favor by doing the same to them later on after they've responded to his email. There are other stories like his, but one particular blog post discusses an especially disturbing detail about "Steven Slate". At some point prior to his death, he got into a heated argument with his wife and committed suicide in front of her while livestreaming it through Facebook Messenger. His wife was able to record the entire incident before he killed himself and posted it online for everyone to see (it can be viewed here). This particular blog post also writes the following about him: "He's not a disgruntled employee or a foreign cyberterrorist, so how did he get into the systems he intruded? He had to have an authorized and privileged user account, and that raises questions." On April 24, 2017, several news sources reported that Stephen Slate was sentenced to two years in prison for "sabotaging or impairing the operation of computers or networks." After this report became public, it was discovered that his death has been attributed to asphyxiation as a result of hanging himself (he was later confirmed dead), and not suicide. The article was later removed from its original source. Slate's criminal record was revealed to be nonexistent. Links to the original article and the live video itself were not only removed from Facebook, but all other websites, such as Reddit and Twitter. The news stories that were published about this incident were taken down entirely. The only places the story remains are in anonymous image boards and blogs. The conspiracy theories around his death and subsequent deletion of information go beyond just his death and suicide attempt in the livestream. It is said that people who respond to his emails become a target of his hacking activity afterwards, and he also targets people in real life who respond to him when he is out in public (as seen in the video). https://web.archive.org/web/20180413034925/https://www.facebook.com/stephen.slate?ref=ts&fref=ts http://stevenslatebloglife.blogspot.com/2004_02_01_stevenslatebloglife_archive.html#142438243841696264 http://www.reddit.com/r/Kontraktywczesciowej https://web.archive. org/web/20180413034925/https://www.facebook.com/stephen.slate?ref=ts&fref=ts http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-man-who-hacked-cyberstalking-exposes-himself-20170425-story.html http://www.dailymail.co. eccc085e13
